Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ (ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਹੀ) ਉਹਨਾਂ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਹੋਇਆਂ ਦਾ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ) ਮਿਲਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਬਹੁ ਸਾਦ = ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਵਿਚ। ਲੁਭਾਣੇ = ਫਸਣ ਵਾਲੇ, ਲੋਭ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ। ਕਿਰਤ ਕਮਾਣੇ = ਆਪਣੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਇਸ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ, (ਆਪਣੇ ਉੱਦਮ ਨਾਲ) ਪਾਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੰਘ ਸਕੀਦਾ। ਜਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਨਾਲ ਸਹਿਮੇ ਰਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਮਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਬੜਾ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੈ।ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਦੁਤਰੁ = {दुस्तर} ਜਿਸ ਤੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ। ਡਰਿ = ਡਰ ਨਾਲ। ਮਰੀਐ = ਮਰੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਹਿਮੇ ਰਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਪੰਥੁ = ਰਸਤਾ। ਦੁਹੇਲਾ = ਦੁਖਦਾਈ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਸ਼ਾਮ (ਕਿਸੇ ਭੀ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ, ਉਹ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ) ਔਖੇ ਰਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲਣ ਲਈ) ਉਹ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ।ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਮਨਿ = ਮਨ ਵਿਚ। ਜਾਤਾ = ਜਾਣਿਆ, ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ। ਸਾਝ = ਸ਼ਾਮ ਵੇਲੇ। ਪ੍ਰਭਾਤਾ = ਸਵੇਰੇ। ਅਵਘਟਿ = ਔਖੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵਿਚ। ਰੁਧਾ = ਰੁਕਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ, ਫਸਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ। ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ = ਕੀਹ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ? ਬੇ-ਬਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਪਰ ਹਾਂ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਰੱਸੀ ਨਾਲ ਬੱਝਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰੇ ॥੧॥ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਬੰਧਨਿ = ਬੰਧਨ ਨਾਲ {ਇਕ-ਵਚਨ}, (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਦੀ) ਰੱਸੀ ਨਾਲ। ਇਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ = ਇਸ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ। ਛੂਟੈ = ਬੰਧਨ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਨਿਕਲ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ। ਸੇਵੈ = ਸਿਮਰੇ। ਨਰਹਰੇ = ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ॥੧॥

(ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਇਹ) ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਖਾ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ (ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੋੜਿਆ ਹੈ)।ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਪਉਣੁ = ਹਵਾ। ਅਗਨਿ = ਅੱਗ। ਬਾਧੇ = (ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਵਿਚ) ਬੰਨ੍ਹੇ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ = (ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ) ਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ ਵਿਖਾਲ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ। ਜਗਤਿ = ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ। ਖੇਲੁ = (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਰਚਿਆ) ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ।
