ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕਿਤੀ = ਕਿਤਨੇ ਹੀ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜੀਵ। ਇਤੁ = ਇਸ ਵਿਚ। ਦਰੀਆਇ = (ਸੰਸਾਰ)-ਦਰਿਆ ਵਿਚ। ਵੰਞਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ = ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਵਹਦਿਆ = ਰੁੜ੍ਹਦੇ ॥੧॥

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਮੋਹ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਦ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਜੀਵ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਭੋਗ ਭੋਗਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਭੋਗਹਿ = (ਜੀਵ) ਭੋਗਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸੁੰਞਿਆ = ਸੁੰਞੇ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਾਲੀ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਤਨਿ = ਸਰੀਰ ਉਤੇ। ਮਰਦਨ = ਵਟਣਾ ਆਦਿਕ। ਮਾਲਣਾ = ਮਲਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਛਾਰੁ = ਸੁਆਹ, ਮਿੱਟੀ। ਸਰਪਰ = ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ॥੩॥
