Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਾਰੇ ਮਨ! ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ ਪੰਛੀ ਹਾਂ, ਅਕਾਲ-ਪੁਰਖ ਨੇ (ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਭੇਜਿਆ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕੋਈ ਰੁੱਖ ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਰਾਤ-ਬਿਸ੍ਰਾਮ ਲਈ ਆਸਰਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਵੇਂ) ਉਹ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹਰੀ (ਸਾਡਾ ਜੀਵ-ਪੰਛੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ-) ਰੁੱਖ ਹੈ।
ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਪੰਖੀ = ਪੰਛੀ। ਅਕਾਲਿ = ਅਕਾਲ ਨੇ।

* ਨੋਟ: ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਦੋ "ਕਰਹਲੇ" ਅਸ਼ਟਪਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹਨ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਅਸ਼ਟਪਦੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ-ਲੇਖ ਉਹਨਾਂ 'ਕਰਹਲਾ' ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਬੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ 'ਕਰਹਲ' ਨਾਲ ਉਪਮਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
