ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਮਨ = ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਕਰਹਲਾ = {करभ = ਊਂਠ ਦਾ ਬੱਚਾ} ਊਂਠ ਦੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਵਾਂਗ ਬੇ-ਮੁਹਾਰ। ਵੀਚਾਰੀਆ = ਵਿਚਾਰਵਾਨ (ਬਣ)। ਵੀਚਾਰਿ = ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ। ਸਮਾਲਿ = ਸੰਭਲ ਕੇ, ਹੋਸ਼ ਕਰ ਕੇ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ। ਮੁਕਤੁ = ਆਜ਼ਾਦ, ਬਚਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ। ਸਮਾਲਿ = ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੇ ॥੨॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਛਡਾਏ = ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਏ। ਛੁਟੀਐ = (ਜਾਲ ਤੋਂ) ਖ਼ਲਾਸੀ ਪਾ ਸਕੀਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥

Fareedkot Teekaਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਹਤੇ ਹੈਂ: ਵਡਭਾਗੀਓਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਮਾਲ ਕਰ ਤਿਸ ਅਪਾਰ ਰੂਪ ਹਰੀ ਕੋ ਪਾਯਾ ਹੈ॥੧੦॥੨॥੨੯॥☬ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਨਿਰ ਹੰਕਾਰਤਾ ਕੀ ਮਹਮਾ ਦੇਖਾਵਤੇ ਹੈਂ:
Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਆਖ-ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਭਾਲ ਕੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ (ਜੀਵ-ਪੰਛੀਆਂ) ਨੇ ਉਹ ਆਸਰਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ ॥੧੦॥੨॥
* ਨੋਟ: ਗੁਰੂ ਰਾਮਦਾਸ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਦੋ "ਕਰਹਲੇ" ਅਸ਼ਟਪਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਿਲ ਹਨ। ਇਹਨਾਂ ਅਸ਼ਟਪਦੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਿਰ-ਲੇਖ ਉਹਨਾਂ 'ਕਰਹਲਾ' ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਰੇਕ ਬੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਨੂੰ 'ਕਰਹਲ' ਨਾਲ ਉਪਮਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।
