Sant Singh KhalsaO rainbird, you do not know what thirst is within you, or what you can drink to quench it.
Manmohan SinghO pied-cuckoo, thou know not what thirst there is within thee and by what draught, this thirst shall be quenched.
Manmohan Singh (Punjabi)ਹੇ ਪਪੀਹੇ! ਤੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕਿਹੜੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਕਾਹਦੇ ਪੀਣ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਇਹ ਪਿਆਸ ਨਵਿਰਤ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ।
Fareedkot Teekaਹੇ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ! ਤੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਨਤਾ ਜੋ ਕ੍ਯਾ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੇਂ ਤਿਖਾ ਹੈ ਔਰ ਕਿਸ ਕੇ ਪੀਣੇ ਸੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਖਾ ਨਿਬ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਤੀ ਹੈ। ਭਾਵ ਭੇਦ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਰੂਪੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਖਾ ਹੈ ਅਰ ਆਤਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਲ ਕਰ ਜਾਤੀ ਹੈ॥
Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਪਪੀਹੇ (ਜੀਵ)! ਤੈਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਤਾ ਕਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕੇਹੜੀ ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਭਟਕਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਪਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ; ਨਾਹ ਹੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਪਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਕੀਹ ਪੀਤਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਮਿਟੇਗੀ;ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕਿਤੁ ਪੀਤੈ = ਕੀਹ ਪੀਤਿਆਂ? ('ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ' ਅਤੇ 'ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ' ਇਹਨਾਂ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ਾਂ ਦੇ 'ਜੋੜ' ਅਤੇ 'ਅਰਥ' ਵਿਚ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਵੇਖਣ-ਯੋਗ ਹੈ)।ਨ ਜਾਣਹੀ = ਤੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਤੂੰ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੈਨੂੰ (ਤ੍ਰੇਹ ਮਿਟਾਣ ਲਈ) ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਲੱਭਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ।ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਜਲੁ = ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ। ਪਲੈ ਨ ਪਾਇ = ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ = ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਸਹਜੇ = ਅਡੋਲਤਾ ਵਿਚ ॥੨॥
