Prof. Sahib Singh(ਜਦੋਂ) (ਜੀਵ-) ਪਪੀਹਾ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਅੱਗੇ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ-(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਨ- ਦਾਤ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼;

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਜੀਅ ਦਾਨ = ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੀ ਦਾਤਿ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਮੇਰੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ, (ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਮੇਰੀ ਜਿੰਦ ਵਿਆਕੁਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਜਲ = ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ, ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ। ਪਿਆਸ = ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ। ਛੁਟਕਿ ਜਾਂਹਿ = ਘਾਬਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪ੍ਰਾਨ = ਜਿੰਦ

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਨੇਧਾਨੁ = ਨਿਧਾਨ, ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਇਹ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ) ਭਗਵਾਨ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋਏ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅੰਤ ਸਮੇ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਆਪ ਹੀ ਜਗਤ ਬਣਾ ਕੇ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ) ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੇ ਔਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੈ = ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਤਿੰਨ ਗੁਣ (ਭੀ ਜੋ) ਨਿਰਾ ਜੰਜਾਲ (ਭਾਵ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਹੀ ਹੈ (ਇਹ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਰਚਿਆ ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਕੇ ਜਗਤ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਂਦਾ;

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਸਰਬ ਜੰਜਾਲੁ = ਨਿਰਾ ਜੰਜਾਲ, ਨਿਰਾ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਾਣ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ। ਨਾਮਿ = ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜੀਵ) ਗੁਣ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਅਉਗਣ ਕਮਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ (ਆਖ਼ਰ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਛੋਡਿ = ਛੱਡ ਕੇ। ਹੋਹਿ = ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਅਜੇਹੇ ਜੀਵ (ਮਾਨੋ) ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ-ਜਨਮ ਹਾਰ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਅਰਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਤਿਨੀ = ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ। ਕਿਤੁ = ਕਾਹਦੇ ਲਈ? ਸੰਸਾਰਿ = ਸੰਸਾਰ ਵਿਚ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਪਰ) ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸੱਚੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ,

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਸਬਦਿ = ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਮਾਰਿਆ = ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆਂਦਾ। ਅਹਿ = ਦਿਨ। ਨਿਸਿ = ਰਾਤ। ਪਿਆਰਿ = ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦੇ ਹਨ)।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਪੁਰਖੀ = ਪੁਰਖੀਂ, ਪੁਰਖਾਂ ਨੇ। ਉਰਿ = ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ।

Fareedkot Teekaਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਹਤੇ ਹੈਂ: ਜਿਸ ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰੂਪ ਨਾਮ ਵਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਯਾ ਹੈ, ਸੋ (ਸਹਜੇ) ਸ੍ਵਰੂਪ ਮੇਂ ਅਭੇਦ ਹੋ ਰਹਾ ਹੈ॥੨॥
Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਅਡੋਲ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਵਣਖੰਡਿ = ਵਣ ਦੇ ਖੰਡ ਵਿਚ, ਜੰਗਲ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਹਿੱਸੇ ਵਿਚ। ਸਦੁ = ਵਾਜ। ਜਾਇ = ਜਾ ਕੇ।
