Manmohan Singh (Punjabi)ਬੰਦਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਕਪੜੇ ਧੋਦਾਂ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਦੇਹਿ ਧੋਦਾਂ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਖਿਆਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਖੁਦ-ਬ-ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਪਵਿੱਤ੍ਰ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿੱਤ) ਕੱਪੜੇ ਧੋ ਕੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਧੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਕਪੜੇ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਸੁੱਚੇ ਰੱਖਣ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਤਪਸ੍ਵੀ ਬਣ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਵਸਤ੍ਰ = ਕਪੜੇ। ਪਖਾਲਿ = ਧੋ ਕੇ। ਆਪੇ = ਆਪ ਹੀ, ਆਪਣੇ ਵਲੋਂ। ਸੰਜਮਿ = ਸੰਜਮੀ, ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਕਾਮ ਆਦਿਕ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ, ਰਿਸ਼ੀ, ਤਪਸ੍ਵੀ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਪਰ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਮੈਲ ਦੀ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ, (ਸਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ) ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਹੀ ਮਲ ਮਲ ਕੇ ਧੋਂਦਾ ਹੈ,

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਭੂਲਿ = ਖੁੰਝ ਕੇ। ਜਮ ਜਾਲੇ = ਮੌਤ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ, ਉਸ ਧੰਦੇ-ਰੂਪ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਜਿੱਥੇ ਸਦਾ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੇ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਪਰਾਈ ਵਸਤ (ਸਰੀਰ ਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ) ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਮਝ ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਦੁਖੁ ਘਾਲੇ = ਦੁੱਖ ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਦੋਂ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ,
