ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ = ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ, ਕਲੇਸ਼ਾਂ-ਵੇੜ੍ਹੀ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਵਿਚ। ਮਿਲਿ = ਮਿਲ ਕੇ। ਸੰਜੋਗ = (ਪਿਛਲੇ) ਸੰਬੰਧਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ। ਆਏ = ਆ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕਿਰਤਿ = {कृत्य} ਕਰਨ-ਯੋਗ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ ਹੈ। ਸੰਜੋਗ = ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ। ਉਠਿ = ਉੱਠ ਕੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਦੇਖਾ ਦੇਖੀ = ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ, ਲੋਕ-ਲਾਜ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ। ਹਠਿ = ਹਠ ਨਾਲ। ਜਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ = ਸੜ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਿਸ (ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ) ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਇੱਕ ਖਸਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਪਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਪਤੀ-ਭਾਵਨਾ ਰੱਖੀ ਹੈ) ਜਿਵੇਂ ਭਗਤ ਦਾ ਪਤੀ ਇੱਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੈ,
ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਜਿਨਿ = ਜਿਸ (ਇਸਤਰੀ) ਨੇ। ਪ੍ਰਿਉ = ਪਤੀ। ਕਰਿ = ਕਰ ਕੇ।
