ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰ ਮਹਿ. ਰਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਊਤਮੁ; ਕਿਉ ਪਾਈਐ. ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਰਹੁ ॥

Sant Singh KhalsaWithin the body-village is the Lord's supreme, sublime essence. How can I obtain it? Teach me, O humble Saints.

Fareedkot Teekaਇਸ ਸਰੀਰ ਰੂਪੀ ਨਗਰ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਦੇਹਿ ਮੇਂ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਕਾ ਹੀ ਰਸ ਲੈਣਾ ਉਤਮਤਾਈ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋਂ! ਸੋ ਨਾਮ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਈਏ? ਐਸਾ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਕਰੋ ਜਿਸ ਕਰ ਪਾਈਏ॥
Prof. Sahib Singh(ਸ਼ਹਿਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਖਾਣ ਪੀਣ ਲਈ ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮਨੁੱਖਾ) ਸਰੀਰ (ਭੀ, ਮਾਨੋ, ਇਕ ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਹੈ, ਇਸ) ਸ਼ਹਿਰ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ (ਸਭ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਨਾਲੋਂ) ਵਧੀਆ ਸੁਆਦਲਾ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੈ। (ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਸਮਝਾਓ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋਵੇ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕਾਇਆ = ਸਰੀਰ। ਊਤਮੁ = ਸ੍ਰੇਸ਼ਟ, ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵਧੀਆ। ਜਨ = ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ!

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਇਹੀ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ (ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ-) ਫਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਰੋ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਨਾਮ-ਜਲ ਪੀਂਦੇ ਰਹੋ ॥੨॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਸੇਵਿ = ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ, ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ। ਸਫਲ = ਫਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ-ਰੂਪ ਫਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ। ਮਿਲਿ = (ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ) ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ॥੨॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ = ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ। ਚਾਖਿ = ਚੱਖ ਕੇ। ਦਿਖਹੁ = ਦੇਖ ਲਵੋ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਉੱਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਰਸ ਸੁਆਦਲਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਮੁਕਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਸ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੩॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ = ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ। ਸਭਿ ਬਿਖ ਰਸਹੁ = ਸਾਰੇ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ-ਰਸ, ਸਾਰੇ ਉਹ ਰਸ ਜੋ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਲਈ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ ਹਨ ॥੩॥

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਕੁੱਲ) ਚਾਰ ਪਦਾਰਥ (ਗਿਣੇ ਗਏ ਹਨ, ਨਾਮ-ਰਸੈਣ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ) ਚਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। (ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਭਜਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋ ॥੪॥੪॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਚਾਰੇ = ਚਾਰ ਹੀ। ਚਾਰਿ ਪਦਾਰਥ = (ਧਰਮ, ਅਰਥ, ਕਾਮ, ਮੋਖ) ॥੪॥੪॥

Prof. Sahib Singhਕੋਈ ਖਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੋਵੇ, ਚਾਹੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਹੋਵੇ, ਕੋਈ ਸ਼ੂਦਰ ਹੋਵੇ ਚਾਹੇ ਵੈਸ਼ ਹੋਵੇ, ਹਰੇਕ (ਸ਼੍ਰੇਣੀ ਦਾ) ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਜਪ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ (ਇਹ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ) ਜਪਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਸੂਦੁ = ਸ਼ੂਦਰ। ਵੈਸ = ਵੈਸ਼। ਕੋ = ਹਰ ਕੋਈ। ਜਾਪੈ = ਜਪ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਪੈਨੀ = ਜਪਣ-ਯੋਗ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਅਨਦ ਮੂਲੁ = ਆਨੰਦ ਦਾ ਸੋਮਾ। ਪੁਰਖੋਤਮੁ = ਉੱਤਮ ਪੁਰਖ। ਅਨਦਿਨੁ = ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼, ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ। ਅਨੰਦੇ = ਆਨੰਦ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ। ਸੇ = ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ {ਬਹੁ-ਵਚਨ}। ਉਧਰੇ = (ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਦੀ ਅੱਗ ਵਿਚ ਸੜਨ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸੇਵ = ਸੇਵਾ-ਭਗਤੀ।

Fareedkot Teekaਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਹਤੇ ਹੈਂ: ਸੋਈ ਆਪ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਸ੍ਵ ਮੇਂ (ਵਰਤੈ) ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੋ ਰਹਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਸੀ ਤੇ ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਓਹ ਰਾਖਤਾ ਹੈ, ਤਿਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਜੀਵ ਰਹਤੇ ਹੈਂ॥੪॥੬॥☬ਪੁਨਾ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਦਿਖਾਵਤੇ ਹੂਏ ਉਪਦੇਸ਼ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਤੇ ਹੈਂ:
Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਆਪ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਵੇਂ ਉਹ (ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ) ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਿਰਬਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ (ਕੋਈ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਕੋਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਭਟਕਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੪॥੬॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਭਈਆ = ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਤਿਤ = ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗੇ ਹੋਏ, ਵਿਕਾਰੀ। ਪਾਵਨੋ = ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ। ਤਾਰਨੋ = ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ।
