Prof. Sahib Singhਇਸ ਸੁਆਹ-ਸਮਾਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਚੰਬੜਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ) ਕੁੱਤੀ ਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲੀ (ਜਗਤ ਦੀ) ਲਾਲਸਾ ਕਦੇ ਰੱਜਦੀ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ = ਰਜੇਵਾਂ, ਤਸੱਲੀ, ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ। ਕੂਕਰੀ = ਕੁੱਤੀ (ਦੇ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਾਲੀ। ਇਤੁ = ਇਸ ਵਿਚ। ਲਾਗੋ = (ਜਗਤ) ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਬਿਖਿਆ = ਮਾਇਆ। ਛਾਰ = ਸੁਆਹ, ਨਿਕੰਮੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਪਰ, ਜੀਵ ਦੇ ਭੀ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ? ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਠਗ-ਬੂਟੀ ਪਾ ਕੇ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ) ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਰਖਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ) ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ,ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਪਾਇ = ਪਾ ਕੇ। ਠਗਉਰੀ = ਠਗ-ਬੂਟੀ। ਭੁਲਾਇਓ = ਕੁਰਾਹੇ ਪਾ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ। ਬਾਰੋ ਬਾਰ = ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨੇ ਸਮੇ ਲਈ ਭੀ (ਜੀਵ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਦਾ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦਾ, ਜਮਦੂਤ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਨਿਮਖ = {निमेष} ਅੱਖ ਝਮਕਣ ਜਿਤਨਾ ਸਮਾ। ਕੰਕਰ = {किंकर} ਨੌਕਰ। ਜਮ ਕੰਕਰ = ਜਮਦੂਤ ॥੧॥

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! (ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ ਉੱਤੇ) ਦਇਆਵਾਨ ਹੋ, (ਤੇਰਾ ਦਾਸ) ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਧੂੜ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹੇ।ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨ = ਹੇ ਗਰੀਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ! ਰਾਵਾਰ = ਰਵਾਰ, ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ।
