Sant Singh KhalsaWhen it pleases You, we play music and sing; when it pleases You, we bathe in water.
Manmohan SinghWhen it pleases Thee then man plays upon musical instruments and sings. When it is Thine will he bathes in water.
Manmohan Singh (Punjabi)ਜਦ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦ ਆਦਮੀ ਸੰਗੀਤਕ ਸਾਜ ਵਜਾਉਂਦਾ ਤੇ ਗਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜਦ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਨਹਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਜਦੋਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਈ ਜੀਵ ਸਾਜ਼) ਵਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਗਾਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ, (ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ) ਜਲ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,
ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ = ਜੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੋਵੇ। ਵਾਵਹਿ = (ਸਾਜ਼) ਵਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਲਿ = ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਈ ਜੀਵ) ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਨਾਇ = ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ। ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣੇ = ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਾਣੇ (ਰਜ਼ਾ) ਵਿਚ ਹਨ। ਤੂੰ = ਤੈਨੂੰ। ਭਾਵਹਿ = ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।

Sant Singh KhalsaNanak utters this one prayer; everything else is just the practice of falsehood. ||1||

Prof. Sahib Singhਨਾਨਕ ਇਕ ਅਰਜ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਪਰ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ) ਕੂੜ ਕਮਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਸਉਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥
