ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ. ਤਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਿਭੂਤਾ; ਸਿੰਙੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਵਹਿ ॥

jaa tudh bhaaveh. taa kareh bibhootaa; singee naad vajaaveh |

Sant Singh KhalsaWhen it pleases You, we smear our bodies with ashes, and blow the horn and the conch shell.
Manmohan SinghWhen it pleases Thee, O Lord! then the mortal smears his body with ashes and sounds the horn and the shell.
Manmohan Singh (Punjabi)ਜਦ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ! ਤਦ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਨੂੰ ਸਵਾਹ ਮਲਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੰਗ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਖ ਵਜਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਬਿਭੂਤਾ = ਸੁਆਹ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਰਸ ਕਸ = ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਸੁਆਦਲੇ ਭੋਜਨ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਦਿਸੰਤਰਿ = ਹੋਰ ਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਚ। ਸੁਣਿ = ਸੁਣ ਕੇ।

Manmohan Singh (Punjabi)ਜਦ ਤੇਰੀ ਇਹ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿੰਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਤੇ ਜਦ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਚੰਗਾ ਲੱਗਣ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਇਹ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਕਈ ਜੀਵ) ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਨਾਇ = ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ। ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣੇ = ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਾਣੇ (ਰਜ਼ਾ) ਵਿਚ ਹਨ। ਤੂੰ = ਤੈਨੂੰ। ਭਾਵਹਿ = ਪਿਆਰੇ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਹਨ।

SikhNet (Spanish)Si es Tu Voluntad, el hombre se absorbe en Tu Nombre, y cuando así lo deseas, llega a complacerte, oh Señor.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਕ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ; ਹੋਰਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ॥੧॥

naanak ek kahai benantee; hor sagale koorr kamaaveh |1|

Sant Singh KhalsaNanak utters this one prayer; everything else is just the practice of falsehood. ||1||
Manmohan SinghNanak makes one supplication (that he may walk according to Thy will). All else is to practice false-hood.

Prof. Sahib Singhਨਾਨਕ ਇਕ ਅਰਜ਼ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਸਾਰੇ (ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਉਪਰ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ) ਕੂੜ ਕਮਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਹ ਸਉਦਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥

Fareedkot Teekaਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੈਂ ਤੋ ਜੀਵ ਕੋ ਸਭ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਤੀ ਹੈਂ। (ਚੰਗੈ) ਸੁਭ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨੇ ਕਰ (ਚੰਗਾ ਹੋਈ) ਉਤਮ ਲੋਕ ਸ੍ਵਰਗਾਦਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਤੇ ਹੈਂ। ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ ਹੈ ਤੌ ਸਭ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਮੇਂ ਹੀ ਹੈਂ। ਔਰ ਹੇ ਚੰਗੇ! ਤੇਰੇ ਸੇ ਜੋ ਹੋਤਾ ਹੈ, ਸੋ ਸਭ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੀ ਹੋਤਾ ਹੈ॥
Prof. Sahib Singhਜਦੋਂ (ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਠੀਕ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਤੂੰ ਵੱਡਾ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਜਗਤ ਦਾ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਹੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ) ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਹੀ ਵਡਿਆਈਆਂ ਹਨ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ) ਚੰਗੇ ਤੋਂ ਚੰਗਿਆਈ ਹੀ ਉਤਪੰਨ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

jaa toon sachaa taa sabh ko sachaa; koorraa koe na koee |

Sant Singh KhalsaYou are True-all that flows from You is True. Nothing at all is false.
Manmohan SinghWhen Thou art True then all that flows from Thee is true. Absolutely nothing is false.
Manmohan Singh (Punjabi)ਜਦ ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਦ ਸਾਰਾ ਕੁਝ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੇ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਵਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੱਚਾ ਹੈ। ਝੂਠ ਮੂਲੋ ਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ।
Fareedkot Teekaਜਬ ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਤਾ ਹੈਂ ਤਬ ਸਭ ਕੋਈ ਸਚਾ ਹੀ ਭਾਸਤਾ ਹੈ। ਝੂਠਾ ਕੋਈ ਭਾਸੇ ਜੇ ਐਸੇ ਪੂਛੇ ਤਾਂ ਕਹਤੇ ਹੈਂ: ਤਿਸ ਬਿਬੇਕੀ ਕੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟੀ ਮੇਂ ਝੂਠਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ॥
Prof. Sahib Singh(ਜਦੋਂ ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨ ਬੱਝ ਜਾਏ ਕਿ) ਤੂੰ ਸੱਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਹੈਂ (ਤਾਂ) ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਸੱਚਾ (ਦਿੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਵਿਚ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਫਿਰ ਇਸ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਕੋਈ ਕੂੜਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਜੋ ਕੁਝ ਬਾਹਰ ਵਿਖਾਵੇ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਦਿੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਇਹ) ਆਖਣਾ-ਵੇਖਣਾ, ਇਹ ਬੋਲ-ਚਾਲ, ਇਹ ਜੀਉਂਣਾ ਤੇ ਮਰਨਾ (ਇਹ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ) ਮਾਇਆ-ਰੂਪ ਹੈ (ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਹੈ)।

* ਨੋਟ: ਪਹਿਲਾ ਸਲੋਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪੁੱਛ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਕਲਜੁਗੀ ਸੁਭਾਵ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਜੀਵ ਦੀ ਖਲਾਸੀ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਹੋਵੇ। ਇਸ ਦੂਜੇ ਸਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਉੱਤਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਸੋ ਇਹ ਸਲੋਕ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਉਪਰਲਾ ਸ਼ਲੋਕ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਅਣਹੋਣੀ ਜਿਹੀ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਇਕੱਲਾ ਇਹੀ ਸਲੋਕ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੋਂ ਸਬੱਬ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲ ਗਿਆ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ। ਅਸਲ ਗੱਲ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਪਣੀ ਹੱਥੀਂ ਲਿਖੀ ਤੇ ਸਾਂਭੀ ਹੋਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਅੰਗਦ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਤੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ {ਵੇਖੋ, ਮੇਰੀ ਪੁਸਤਕ 'ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਬਾਰੇ'}।

Prof. Sahib Singhਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਸਮਝ ਹੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਈ, ਕਿ ਇਥੋਂ ਤੁਰ ਭੀ ਜਾਣਾ ਹੈ। ਸੋ, ਉਹ ਕਾਮ ਕਰੋਧ-ਰੂਪ ਜ਼ਹਿਰ (ਜ਼ਗਤ ਵਿਚ) ਵਧਾ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ।
