Prof. Sahib Singh(ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੀ) ਮਤਿ (ਮਾਨੋ, ਇਕ) ਪੰਛੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ (ਸਾਥੀ) ਹੈ, (ਇਸ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਦੇ ਸੰਗ ਕਰ ਕੇ 'ਮਤਿ') ਕਦੇ ਚੰਗੀ ਹੈ ਕਦੇ ਨੀਵੀਂ;
ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਪੰਖੇਰੂ = ਪੰਛੀ। ਕਿਰਤੁ = ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਕੰਮ, (ਭਾਵ, ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਸਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਇਕੱਠ, ਪਿਛਲੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਸੁਭਾਉ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਕਦੇ (ਇਹ ਮਤਿ-ਰੂਪ ਪੰਛੀ) ਚੰਦਨ (ਦੇ ਬੂਟੇ) ਤੇ (ਬੈਠਦਾ ਹੈ) ਕਦੇ ਅੱਕ ਦੀ ਡਾਲੀ ਉੱਤੇ, ਕਦੇ (ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ) ਉੱਚੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਦੀ) ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਪਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਵੱਸ ਦੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ) ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ (ਧੁਰੋਂ) ਰੀਤ ਤੁਰੀ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਕਿ ਉਹ (ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਹੁਕਮ ਵਿਚ ਤੋਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਚੰਗੀ ਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਮੰਦੀ ਮਤਿ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ) ॥੨॥
