Prof. Sahib Singh(ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ) ਪੁੱਤਰ (ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ), ਧਨ (ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ), (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਨਿਬਾਹੁੰਦਾ।ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਸੁਤ = ਪੁੱਤਰ। ਸੰਪਤਿ = ਧਨ। ਬਿਖਿਆ = ਮਾਇਆ। ਭਗਵਤ = {ਅੱਖਰ 'ਭ' ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਦੋ ਲਗਾਂ ਹਨ: (ੋ) ਅਤੇ (ੁ) ਅਸਲ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ ਹੈ 'ਭੋਗਵਤ'। ਇਥੇ 'ਭੁਗਵਤ' ਪੜ੍ਹਨਾ ਹੈ}। ਪਾਥ = ਰਸਤਾ। ਜਮ ਕੈ ਪਾਥ = ਜਮਰਾਜ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਪਿਆਂ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ (ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅਸਲ) ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਹੈ। ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਟੋਟੇ (ਵਿਚ ਡਿੱਗਣ) ਤੋਂ ਬਚਾ ਲੈ ॥੧॥ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ = ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ। ਗਾਉ = ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰ। ਉਧਰੁ = (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ) ਬਚਾ ਲੈ। ਸਾਗਰ = (ਸੰਸਾਰ-) ਸਮੁੰਦਰ। ਖਾਤ = (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ) ਗੜ੍ਹਾ, ਟੋਆ ॥੧॥

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਸਮਰਥ! ਹੇ ਅਕੱਥ! ਹੇ ਅਗੋਚਰ! ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! (ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ) ਸਰਨ (ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ), (ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ) ਸਿਮਰਦਿਆਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਸਮਰਥ = ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤਾਕਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਾਲਕ! ਅਕਥ = ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਸਹੀ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਾ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਾਹ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ। ਅਗੋਚਰ = {ਅ-ਗੋ-ਚਰ। ਗੋ = ਗਿਆਨ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ} ਜੋ ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਪਹੁੰਚ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ। ਲਾਥ = ਲਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਗਰੀਬ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਮੰਗਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ ਉਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਧੁਰ-ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਲਿਖੀ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੨॥੬॥੮॥ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਦੀਨ = ਗਰੀਬ। ਧੂਰਿ ਜਨ = ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ। ਬਾਂਛਤ = ਮੰਗਦਾ। ਲਿਖਤ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਾਥ = ਧੁਰ-ਦਰਗਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਮੱਥੇ ਉਤੇ ਲਿਖੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ॥੨॥੬॥੮॥
