Prof. Sahib Singhਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਨ ਬੀਤਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਮਰ ਦਾ ਸਮਾ ਘਟਦਾ ਹੈ,

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਰਾਤੀ ਦਿਨਿ = ਰਾਤਿ ਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ; (ਭਾਵ) ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤਿ ਬੀਤਦੇ ਹਨ। ਕਾਲੁ = ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਸਮਾ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕਾਇਆ = ਸਰੀਰ। ਛਿਜੈ = ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਬਿਰਧ ਹੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਪਰਾਲੁ = ਪਰਾਲੀ ਵਾਂਗ ਫੋਕਾ ਕਮਜ਼ੋਰ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਰੋਂਹਿ = ਰੋਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮਰਿ ਜਾਂਹੀ = ਖਪਦੇ ਹਨ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਜਦੋਂ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦਾ ਉਹ) ਪ੍ਰੀਤ-ਪਿਆਰ ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਜੋ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਨਬੰਧੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਸੀ) ਝਗੜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ ਵੈਰ ਭੀ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ;

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਵਾਦੀ = ਵਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ, (ਵਾਦੁ = ਝਗੜਾ) ਝਗੜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ (ਜਿਵੇਂ 'ਧਨ' ਤੋਂ 'ਧਨੀ')।

Manmohan Singh (Punjabi)ਮੁਰਦੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸੁੰਦਰਤਾ ਅਲੋਪ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਲੋਥ ਮੁਸੀਬਤ ਅੰਦਰ ਰੁਲਦੀ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਸਰੀਰ ਦਾ ਸੋਹਣਾ) ਰੰਗ ਰੂਪ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਭੀ ਰੁਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਅੱਗ ਜਾਂ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ)।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਵੰਨੁ = ਰੰਗ। ਦੁਖੀ ਦੇਹ = ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ਸਰੀਰ।

Fareedkot Teekaਲੋਕ ਐਸੇ ਗਲਾਂ ਕਰਤੇ ਹੈਂ: ਵਾਸਤਵ ਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਕਾ ਹਾਲ ਕੁਛ ਨਿਰਨੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਤਾ ਕਿ ਕਹਾਂ ਸੇ ਆਇਆ ਥਾ ਔਰ ਕਹਾਂ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ ਔਰ ਵਹੁ ਕੁਛ (ਨ ਸੀਓ) ਨਹੀਂ ਥਾ ਕਿ ਕਿਛ ਥਾ?
Prof. Sahib Singh(ਉਸ ਦੇ ਸਨਬੰਧੀ ਤੇ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਦੇ ਬੰਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ (ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ) ਤੇ ਮੂੰਹੋਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਕਿਥੋਂ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ ਕਿਥੇ ਤੁਰ ਗਿਆ (ਭਾਵ, ਜਿਥੋਂ ਆਇਆ ਸੀ ਓਥੇ ਚਲਾ ਗਿਆ) ਉਹ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ ਤੇ ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈਸੀ (ਭਾਵ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਫਲਾਣੇ ਐਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਨ, ਤੇ, ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਫਲਾਣੇ ਗੁਣ ਸਨ),

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕਹ = ਕਿਥੇ? ਕਿਹੁ ਨ ਸੀਓ = ਇਹ ਕੁਝ ਉਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਗਤ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜੇ ਧਨ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਬਣੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਧਰਮ ਕਮਾ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ = ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ (ਨੋਟ: 'ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ' ਅਤੇ 'ਪਲੈ ਧਨੁ ਵਸੈ' ਵਿਚ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਪੱਲਾ' ਸਾਂਝਾ ਹੋਣ ਤੋਂ ਇਉਂ ਜਾਪਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਧਨ' ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਦੋਹੀਂ ਥਾਈਂ ਇੱਕੋ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਸੋ 'ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ' ਵਿਚ 'ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ' ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿਕਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਸਰਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਦੁਇ' ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਉਹ ਘਟਨਾ ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਉਚਾਰਿਆ ਸੀ 'ਸਰਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਦੁਇ ਛਪਿ ਖਲੋਏ'। ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਵਾਰ ਐਮਨਾਬਾਦ ਦੀ ਕਤਲਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਪਿਛੋਂ ਲਿਖੀ ਜਾਪਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਗੱਲ ਭੀ ਸੁਆਦਲੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਕੁਝ ਸ਼ਲੋਕ ਭੀ ਐਸੇ ਇਥੇ ਦਰਜ ਕੀਤੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਉਸੇ ਹੀ ਘਟਨਾ ਦਾ ਚੇਤਾ ਕਰਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ)। ਸਰਮੁ = ਇੱਜ਼ਤ। ਦੁਇ = ਦੋਵੇਂ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕਾਂਢੀਐ = ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।ਜਿਤੁ = ਜਿਸ (ਧਨ) ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਸਿਰਿ = ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ। ਖਾਇ = ਖਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਹਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਅੰਧੀ ਕੰਮੀ = ਉਹਨਾਂ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਜੋ ਵਿਚਾਰ-ਹੀਣ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ। ਅੰਧੁ = ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ, ਵਿਚਾਰ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ। ਤਨੁ = (ਭਾਵ,) ਗਿਆਨ-ਇੰਦ੍ਰੇ। ਮਨਿ ਅੰਧੈ = ਜੇ ਮਨ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ।
