ਤਟਨ ਖਟਨ ਜਟਨ ਹੋਮਨ ਨਾਹੀ ਡੰਡਧਾਰ ਸੁਆਉ ॥੧॥

tattan khattan jattan homan naahee ddanddadhaar suaau |1|

Sant Singh KhalsaMaking pilgrimages to sacred rivers, observing the six rituals, wearing matted and tangled hair, performing fire sacrifices and carrying ceremonial walking sticks - none of these are of any use. ||1||

Fareedkot Teekaਤੀਰਥੋਂ ਕੇ (ਤਟਨ) ਕਿਨਾਰਿਓਂ ਪਰ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਕਰਨਾ, (ਖਟਨ) ਖਟ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰੋਂ ਕੇ ਵੀਚਾਰਨੇ ਸੇ; ਵਾ ਖਟ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਨੇ ਸੇ, ਪੁਨਹ ਜਟਾ ਧਾਰਨੇ ਸੇ, ਹੋਮ ਕਰਨੇ ਸੇ, ਡੰਡ ਧਾਰ ਕਰ ਸੰਨ੍ਯਾਸੀ ਹੋਣੇ ਸੇ, (ਸੁਆਉ) ਆਤਮ ਲਾਭ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤਿ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਤਾ॥੧॥
Prof. Sahib Singhਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਦੇ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ, ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਛੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਅੱਭਿਆਸ, ਜਟਾਂ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨੀਆਂ, ਹੋਮ-ਜੱਗ ਕਰਨੇ, ਡੰਡਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਜੋਗੀ ਬਣਨਾ-(ਮੇਰਾ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ) ਵਾਸਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ॥੧॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਤਟਨ = (ਤਟ = ਤੀਰਥ ਦਾ ਕੰਢਾ) ਤੀਰਥ-ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ। ਖਟਨ = (ਖਟ = ਛੇ) ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਛੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਭਿਆਸ (ਦਾਨ ਦੇਣ ਤੇ ਲੈਣ, ਵਿੱਦਿਆ ਪੜ੍ਹਨੀ ਤੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਣੀ, ਜੱਗ ਕਰਨਾ ਤੇ ਕਰਾਣਾ)। ਜਟਨ = ਜਟਾਂ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਧਾਰਨ ਕਰਨੀਆਂ। ਹੋਮਨ = ਹੋਮ-ਜੱਗ ਕਰਨੇ। ਡੰਡ ਧਾਰ = ਡੰਡਾ-ਧਾਰੀ ਜੋਗੀ ਬਣਨਾ। ਸੁਆਉ = ਸੁਆਰਥ, ਪ੍ਰਯੋਜਨ ॥੧॥

Fareedkot Teekaਜਤੀਓਂ ਕੀ ਤਰਾਂ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ੍ਯੋਂ ਕੇ ਸੰਕੋਚਨੇ ਸੇ; ਵਾ (ਭਾਂਤਨ) ਤਰਹ ਤਰਹ ਕੇ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਨੇ ਸੇ, ਪੁਨਾ ਤਪ ਕਰਨੇ ਤੇ, ਤੀਰਥੋਂ ਮੇਂ ਭ੍ਰਮਣੇ ਤੇ, ਅਨੇਕ ਕਥਾ ਕੋ ਕਥਤੇ ਹੂਏ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ (ਠਾਉ) ਅਸਥਾਨ, ਭਾਵ ਸਰੂਪ ਕੀ ਥਾਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਈ ਜਾਤੀ ਹੈ॥
Prof. Sahib Singh(ਧੂਣੀਆਂ ਆਦਿਕ ਤਪਾ ਕੇ) ਤਪ ਕਰਨੇ, ਧਰਤੀ ਦਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਣ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣਾ-ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਜਤਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ, ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਵਖਿਆਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦੀ) ਹਾਥ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਭਦੀ (ਸੁਖ-ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦਾ) ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਭਾਂਤਨ = ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਭਾਂਤ ਦੇ। ਤਪਨ = ਤਪ ਸਾਧਣੇ। ਭ੍ਰਮਨ = ਧਰਤੀ ਉਤੇ ਭੌਂਦੇ ਫਿਰਨਾ। ਕਥਤੇ = ਕਥਦਿਆਂ। ਥਾਹ = ਡੂੰਘਾਈ। ਠਾਉ = ਥਾਂ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਰੀ = ਹੇ ਸਖੀ! ਗਾਇਓ = (ਜਿਸ ਨੇ) ਗਾਇਆ। ਗੁਨੀ ਗਹੇਰੋ = ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨਾ ॥੨॥੪॥੪੩॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਸੰਤ ਬੇਦ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨ। ਪੰਥੁ = (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ) ਰਸਤਾ। ਗਾਖਰੋ = ਔਖਾ, ਕਠਨ। ਮਗਨ = ਮਸਤ। ਅਹੰ = ਹਉਮੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ॥

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਮਨ! ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਭੈੜੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ ਰੱਤੇ ਮੱਤੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ) ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ (ਅਨੇਕਾਂ) ਦੁੱਖ-ਕਲੇਸ਼ ਵਿਆਪਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਰਾਤੇ = ਰੰਗੇ ਹੋਏ। ਮਾਤੇ = ਮਸਤ। ਸੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ = ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲ। ਬਪੁਰੀ = ਵਿਚਾਰੀ, ਭੈੜੀ। ਸੰਤਾਪ = ਕਲੇਸ਼ ॥੧॥

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਨੂੰ ਤੂੰ ਆਪ (ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਤੇਰਾ) ਨਾਮ ਜਪਦਿਆਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਜਪਤ = ਜਪਦਿਆਂ। ਜਿਸਹਿ = ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਣ 'ਹੀ' ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਜਿਸੁ' ਦਾ (ੁ) ਉਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ)। ਉਧਾਰਹੁ = ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾਂਦਾ ਹੈਂ।
