ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੀਤਿਆ; ਬਹੁਰਿ. ਨ ਜੂਐ ਹਾਰਿ ॥੧॥

janam padaarath guramukh jeetiaa; bahur. na jooai haar |1|

Sant Singh KhalsaThe Gurmukh is successful in this priceless human life; he shall not lose it in the gamble ever again. ||1||
Manmohan SinghBy the Guru's grace, my invaluable human life has become fruitful and I shall lose it not in gamble, again.

Prof. Sahib Singhਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਇਸ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਨੂੰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਟਾਕਰੇ ਤੇ) ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਬਣਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਫਿਰ ਕਦੇ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ॥੧॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ। ਬਹੁਰਿ = ਮੁੜ। ਜੂਐ = ਜੂਏ ਵਿਚ। ਹਾਰਿ = ਹਾਰ ਕੇ ॥੧॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਗਾਵਹ = ਆਓ, ਭਾਈ! ਅਸੀਂ ਗਾਵੀਏ = {ਵਰਤਮਾਨ ਕਾਲ, ਉੱਤਮ ਪੁਰਖ, ਬਹੁ-ਵਚਨ}। ਸਬਦਿ = ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਬੀਚਾਰਿ = ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕੇ, ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਕੇ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਜਿਸਹਿ = ਜਿਸ (ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਉੱਤੇ {ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ਣ 'ਹੀ' ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਜਿਸੁ' ਦਾ (ੁ) ਉਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ}। ਤਾ ਕੋ = ਉਸ ਦਾ। ਕਾਮੁ = (ਹਰੇਕ) ਕੰਮ ॥੧॥

Prof. Sahib Singhਸਾਰੇ ਡਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਸ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਜਾਣ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਖਿਲਰ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਮੰਗਲ = ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀਆਂ। ਗਾਉ = ਗਾਇਆ ਕਰੋ। ਪੂਰਨ ਨੇਹੁ = ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪਿਆਰ। ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਓ = ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਅਬਿਚਲ = ਨਾਹ ਹਿੱਸਣ ਵਾਲੀ, ਅਟੱਲ। ਨੀਵ = (ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦੀ) ਨੀਂਹ। ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ = ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨੇ। ਕਬਹੂ = ਕਦੇ ਭੀ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਬੰਧਪ = ਸਨਬੰਧੀ। ਮਨਿ = ਮਨ ਵਿਚ। ਕੋ = ਦਾ। ਅਹਿਲਾਦ = ਖ਼ੁਸ਼ੀ, ਹੁਲਾਰਾ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਭੈ = ਡਰ {ਬਹੁ-ਵਚਨ}। ਖਾਦ = ਖਾਧੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ, ਮੁੱਕ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
