ਅਨਿਕ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਿ; ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਨਾ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ ॥

anik jatan kar; trisan naa dhraapai |

Sant Singh KhalsaYou try all sorts of things, but your thirst is still not satisfied.
Manmohan SinghBy resorting to various efforts desire is not satiated.

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਦੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਜਤਨ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਹ ਨਹੀਂ ਮੁੱਕਦੀ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕਰਿ = ਕਰ ਕੇ, ਕੀਤਿਆਂ। ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ = ਤ੍ਰਿਹ, ਲਾਲਚ। ਨ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ = ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਜਦੀ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ) ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ ਤਰੀਕੇ (ਵਰਤਿਆਂ ਭੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ) ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਖ਼ਰੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਈਦਾ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕੋਟਿ = ਕ੍ਰੋੜਾਂ। ਉਪਾਵ = ਤਰੀਕੇ, ਵਸੀਲੇ। ਸਿਝੈ = ਸਿੱਝਦਾ, ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੁੰਦਾ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ = ਬਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ। ਊਭ = ਉਤਾਂਹ, ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ। ਪਇਆਲਿ = ਪਾਤਾਲ ਵਿਚ। ਊਭ ਪਇਆਲਿ = ਚਾਹੇ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਤੇ ਚੜ੍ਹ ਜਾਏ, ਚਾਹੇ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਲੁਕ ਜਾਵੇ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ, (ਸਗੋਂ) ਜੀਵ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਤੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਮੋਹਿ = ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ। ਬਿਆਪਹਿ = ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਾਲਿ = ਜਾਲ ਵਿਚ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਡਾਨੈ = ਡੰਨਦਾ ਹੈ, ਡੰਨ ਲਾਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਭਜਨ ਬਿਨੁ; ਤਿਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਨੈ ॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਜਿਨਿ = ਜਿਸ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਨੇ। ਕੀਆ = ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ। ਤਿਸੁ = ਉਸ ਨੂੰ। ਚਿਤਿ = ਚਿੱਤ ਵਿਚ। ਨਿਬਹੀ = ਨਿਭਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਾਥ ਨਿਬਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥
