ਇਕਿ ਨਗਨ ਫਿਰਹਿ. ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ; ਨੀਂਦ ਨ ਸੋਵਹੀ ॥

Prof. Sahib Singhਕਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਅੱਗ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਸਾੜਦੇ ਹਨ (ਭਾਵ; ਧੂਣੀਆਂ ਤਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਅਪਾਣਾ ਆਪ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਆਪੁ = ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ। ਵਿਗੋਵਹੀ = ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਪਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਵਾਂਜੇ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ-ਸਰੀਰ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗਵਾਇਆ, ਹੁਣ ਉਹ ਕੀਹ ਆਖ ਕੇ ਰੋਣ? (ਨਾਮ-ਸਿਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਮੌਕਾ ਗਵਾ ਕੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਲਾਭ ਨਹੀਂ)।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਜਦੋਂ ਜੀਵ-) ਪਪੀਹਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਣੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ-) ਬੱਦਲ ਨੂੰ ਹੁਕਮ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਇਸ ਅਰਜ਼ੋਈ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਉਤੇ) ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ ('ਨਾਮ' ਦੀ) ਵਰਖਾ ਕਰੋ।

Sant Singh KhalsaO rainbird, this is not the way to quench your thirst, even though you may cry out a hundred times.

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ (ਜੀਵ-) ਪਪੀਹੇ! ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਸੌ ਵਾਰੀ ਤਰਲੇ ਲਏਂ ਤਾਂ ਭੀ ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਤੇਰੀ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ) ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਮਿਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦੀ,

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਇਵ = ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ। ਤਿਖਾ = ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ। ਸਉ = ਸੌ ਵਾਰੀ। ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰ = ਤੂੰ ਤਰਲੇ ਕਰੇਂ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਕੇਵਲ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਨਦਰੀ = ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਜ਼ਰ ਨਾਲ। ਪਾਈਐ = ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ। ਉਪਜੈ = ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! (ਜਦੋਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ) ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ (ਜੀਵ ਦੇ) ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਆ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਸਾਰੇ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਨਾਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੨॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਧੁਰਹੁ = ਮੁੱਢ ਤੋਂ ਹੀ। ਉਝੜ = ਉਜਾੜ ਵਾਲੇ ਰਾਹੇ, ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ। ਖੁਆਇਆ = ਸਹੀ ਰਾਹ ਤੋਂ ਖੁੰਝਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਹਨ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਦਝੈ = ਸੜਦੀ ਹੈ। ਗੁਣ ਬਾਹਰੀ = ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੀ। ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ = ਦੂਜੇ ਪਾਸੇ ਵਲ, ਮਾਇਆ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਾਸੇ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ = ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ। ਜਿਸ ਕੈ = (ਸੰਬੰਧਕ 'ਕੈ' ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਜਿਸੁ' ਦਾ (ੁ) ਉਡ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ)। ਸਦ = ਸਦਾ।
