ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ. ਨ ਪਾਇਆ, ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਗਵਾਇਆ; ਨਾਨਕ. ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰ ॥੨॥

har naam. na paaeaa, janam birathaa gavaaeaa; naanak. jam maar kare khuaar |2|

Sant Singh KhalsaThey do not obtain the Lord's Name, and they waste away their lives in vain; O Nanak, the Messenger of Death punishes and dishonors them. ||2||
Manmohan SinghThey attain not God's Name and waste their life in vain and death's courier punishes and dishonours them.
Manmohan Singh (Punjabi)ਉਹ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਗੁਆ ਲੈਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਦੂਤ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਜ਼ਾ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਬੇਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
Fareedkot Teekaਮਨਮੁਖੋਂ ਨੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਕੋ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਾਇਆ, ਤਿਨੋਂ ਨੇ ਬਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਜਨਮ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਕੀਆ ਹੈ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਹਤੇ ਹੈਂ: ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਜਮ ਮਾਰ ਕਰ ਨਰਕੋਂ ਮੇਂ ਖਰਾਬ ਕਰਤਾ ਹੈ॥੨॥☬ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ: ਜਬ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਨੇ ਜਗਤ ਉਪਜਾਇਆ ਥਾ ਤਬ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਦੇਣੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਥਾ ਵਾ ਨਹੀਂ? ਤਿਸ ਪਰ ਕਹਤੇ ਹੈਂ:
Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਸੀਬ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਇਆ, ਉਹ ਜਨਮ ਅਜਾਈਂ ਗਵਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਜਮ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਖ਼ੁਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਮੌਤ ਹੱਥੋਂ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਮੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ) ॥੨॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਉਪਾਇਓਨੁ = ਉਪਾਇਆ ਉਨਿ, ਪੈਦਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਉਸ ਨੇ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਓਪਤਿ = ਉਤਪੱਤੀ, ਸ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟੀ।

ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਵੈ ਕਰੇ; ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ. ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੧॥

Manmohan Singh (Punjabi)ਨਿਸਫਲ ਹੈ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਜਿੰਦਗੀ, ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਬਿਰਤੀ ਹੋਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਊਣਾ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਜੋ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਕਿਸੇ ਹੋਰ ਵਿਚ ਚਿੱਤ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਪਛਾਣਦੇ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਨਿਹਫਲੁ = ਵਿਅਰਥ। ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ = ਚਿੱਤ ਲਾ ਕੇ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਸਭੋ = ਹਰ ਥਾਂ। ਸਚੁ = ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ (ਇਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਨਗੀ-ਰੂਪ) ਸਦਾ ਟਿਕੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਫਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਪਰ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਕਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ, ਉਹ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਨਿਰੀਆਂ ਕੱਚੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕਥਨੀ = ਗੱਲਾਂ। ਬਦਨੀ = ਬਦਨ (ਮੂੰਹ) ਨਾਲ। ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ = ਮੂੰਹ ਦੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ। ਕਚੁ ਨਿਕਚੁ = ਨਿਰੋਲ ਕੱਚਾ, ਨਿਰੋਲ ਕੱਚੀਆਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ॥੨॥

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ ਬਚ ਕੇ ਲੰਘਣ ਦਾ ਰਸਤਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਨਿੱਕਾ ਜਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਇਸ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਲੰਘ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਬਹੁਤ ਨਿੱਕਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਨੀਕਾ = ਨਿੱਕਾ ਜਿਹਾ। ਨਾਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ = ਨੰਨ੍ਹਾ, ਬਹੁਤ ਛੋਟਾ। ਸੁ = ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ।
