braham bindeh te braahamanaa; je chaleh satigur bhaae |

Sant Singh KhalsaHe alone knows God, and he alone is a Brahmin, who walks in harmony with the Will of the True Guru.
Manmohan SinghIf he knows the Supreme Lord and walks in the True Guru's will; then alone is he a Brahmin.

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਹਨ (ਅਸਲ) ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ, ਜਿਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ, ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਜੀਵਨ ਬਤੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ,

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਬਿੰਦਹਿ = ਪਛਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ, ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ = ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ। ਭਾਇ = ਪਿਆਰ ਵਿਚ। ਚਲਹਿ = (ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ) ਤੁਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੀਵਨ ਬਤੀਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਹਉਮੈ (ਦਾ) ਰੋਗ ਦੂਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਸਦਾ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ = ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ। ਗਵਾਇ = ਦੂਰ ਕਰ ਕੇ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਉਹ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ) ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਆਪਣੀ) ਸੁਰਤਿ-ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਰਵਹਿ = ਚੇਤੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹਹਿ = ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜੋਤੀ = ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਵਿਚ। ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ = (ਆਪਣੀ) ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਪਰ ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਇਸ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ (ਇਹੋ ਜਿਹੇ) ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਹੀ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਮਨ ਲਾ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾਈ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ = ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ। ਲਾਇ = ਲਾ ਕੇ।

Sant Singh KhalsaOne who does not serve the True Guru, and who does not love the Word of the Shabad,

Fareedkot Teekaਤਿਨੋਂ ਨੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਵਿਸ਼ਿਓਂ ਕੇ (ਸੁਆਉ) ਸੁਆਰਥ ਕੋ ਲੇ ਕਰ ਸਕਾਮ ਕਰਮੋਂ ਕਾ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਕੀਆ ਹੈ। ਤਿਸੀ ਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਹਉਮੈਂ ਕਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਅਤੀ ਬਡਾ ਹੋਤਾ ਭਇਆ ਹੈ॥
Prof. Sahib Singh(ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਮੁਰੀਦ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਨੇ) ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਚਸਕਿਆਂ ਵਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਬਹੁਤ ਲੰਮਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਦਾ ਰੋਗ ਹੀ ਖੱਟਿਆ;

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਦੀਰਘੁ = ਲੰਮਾ। ਬਹੁ ਸੁਆਉ = ਬਹੁਤੇ ਸੁਆਦਾਂ ਵਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਹਠ ਦੇ ਆਸਰੇ (ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ) ਕਰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਕਰਕੇ ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਜੂਨਾਂ (ਦੇ ਗੇੜ) ਵਿਚ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਹਠਿ = ਹਠ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਪਾਇ = ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੈ; ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥

Sant Singh KhalsaThe birth of the Gurmukh is fruitful and auspicious. The Lord unites him with Himself.
Manmohan SinghFruitful is the birth of the Guru-ward, whom the Lords of Himself, unites with Himself.
Manmohan Singh (Punjabi)ਫਲਦਾਇਕ ਹੈ, ਜੰਮਣਾ ਗੁਰੂ-ਸਮਰਪਣ ਦਾ, ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਖੁਦ-ਬ-ਖੁਦ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਮਿਲਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸਨਮੁਖ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਕਾਮਯਾਬ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਪਰ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜਿਸ ਨੂੰ (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ) ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਜੋੜਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਸਫਲੁ = ਕਾਮਯਾਬ। ਆਪੇ = (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ) ਆਪ ਹੀ।

ਨਾਨਕ. ਨਦਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ; ਤਾ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਨਦਰੀ = ਮਿਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ। ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ = ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਸਭ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ = ਸਾਰੇ ਗੁਣ। ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ, ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ। ਧਿਆਈਐ = ਸਿਮਰਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਗੁਹਜ ਗਲ = ਲੁਕਵੀਂ ਗੱਲ, ਅੰਦਰਲੀ ਗੱਲ, ਦਿਲ ਦੀ ਘੁੰਡੀ। ਜੀਅ ਕੀ = ਦਿਲ ਦੀ। ਕੀਚੈ = ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਏ। ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖੁ = ਹਰੇਕ ਕਿਸਮ ਦਾ ਸੁਖ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ = ਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਚ। ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ = ਮੇਲ ਕੇ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਮਿਲਾ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਜਿ ਗਲ = ਜਿਹੜੀ ਗੱਲ। ਸਾ = ਉਹ ਗੱਲ। ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਈ = ਵਧਦੀ ਹੈ। ਲੋਕਾਈ = ਖ਼ਲਕਤ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਲੋਕ। ਖਪਿ ਖਪਿ ਮਰੈ = ਖਿੱਝ ਖਿੱਝ ਕੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ ਸਹੇੜਦੀ ਹੈ ॥੪॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ = ਫਿਟਕਾਰ-ਯੋਗ। ਦੂਜੇ ਭਾਵ ਕੀ = (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ) ਹੋਰ ਨਾਲ ਪਿਆਰ ਪਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ। ਮੋਹਿ = ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਚ।
