ਗੁਣ ਤੇ ਗੁਣ ਮਿਲਿ ਪਾਈਐ; ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਪਰ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਕਦਰ ਜਾਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ) ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ 'ਆਪਾ' ਲੀਨ ਕਰ ਦੇਵੇ, ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਂਵਿਆਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜਿਆਂ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ 'ਨਾਮ'-ਰੂਪ ਕੀਮਤੀ ਪਦਾਰਥ) ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਗੁਣ ਤੇ = ਗੁਣਾਂ ਤੋਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉਣ ਨਾਲ। ਗੁਣ ਮਿਲਿ = ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਵਿਚ ਮਨ ਜੋੜਿਆਂ। ਪਾਈਐ = {ਇਹ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਇਕ-ਵਚਨ' ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦਾ 'ਬਹੁ-ਵਚਨ' ਹੈ 'ਪਾਈਅਹਿ'; ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਗੁਣ' ਭੀ 'ਬਹੁ-ਵਚਨ' ਹੈ, ਇਸ ਦਾ 'ਇਕ-ਵਚਨ' ਹੈ 'ਗੁਣੁ'; ਸੋ, 'ਪਾਈਐ' ਦਾ ਅਰਥ 'ਗੁਣ ਮਿਲਦੇ ਹਨ' ਗ਼ਲਤ ਹੈ।} ਪਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ, ('ਨਾਮ') ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singh'ਨਾਮ' ਪਦਾਰਥ ਹੈ, ਕਿਸੇ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ, ਕਿਸੇ ਹੱਟ ਤੋਂ ਖ਼ਰੀਦ ਕੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਲਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਮਲਿ = {ਅਸਲ ਪਾਠ 'ਮੁਲਿ' ਹੈ, ਏਥੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਨਾ ਹੈ 'ਮੋਲਿ'} (ਕਿਸੇ) ਮੁੱਲ ਨਾਲ, ਕਿਸੇ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਾਲ। ਅਮਲੁ = (ਅਸਲ ਪਾਠ 'ਅਮੁਲੁ', ਏਥੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਨਾ 'ਅਮੋਲੁ'} ਅਮੋਲਕ। ਵਣਜਿ = ਖ਼ਰੀਦ ਕੇ। ਹਾਟਿ = ਹੱਟ ਤੋਂ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ('ਨਾਮ' ਦੇ ਮੁੱਲ ਦਾ) ਤੋਲ ਤਾਂ ਬੱਝਵਾਂ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਕਦੇ ਘਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, 'ਆਪਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਕਰਨਾ'-ਇਹ ਬੱਝਵਾਂ ਮੁੱਲ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਘਟ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਉੱਦਮ 'ਨਾਮ' ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਲਈ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਤੋਲੁ = ('ਨਾਮ' ਦੇ) ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦੀ ਚੀਜ਼। ਪੂਰਾ = ਮੁਕੰਮਲ, ਕਦੇ ਘੱਟ ਵਧ ਨਾਹ ਹੋਣ ਵਾਲਾ ॥੧॥

* ਨੋਟ:ਕਈ ਟੀਕਾਕਾਰ 'ਪਉੜੀ' ਵਿਚ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਗਿਆਨੁ' ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਸ਼ਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ ਭੀ 'ਪਾਈਐ' ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਗਿਆਨੁ' ਜੋੜਦੇ ਹਨ, ਇਹ ਭੀ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਹੈ। 'ਵਾਰ' ਦੀ 'ਪਉੜੀ' ਆਪਣੇ ਥਾਂ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਇਹ ਸ਼ਲੋਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਥਾਂ; ਫਿਰ, ਇਹ ਸ਼ਲੋਕ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਦਾ ਤੇ 'ਪਉੜੀ' ਹੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਮਰਦਾਸ ਜੀ ਦੀ।

Fareedkot Teekaਜਬ ਮੌਲੀ ਰੰਗੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਤਬ ਰੰਗਣੇ ਕੇ ਵਕਤ ਏਕ ਜਗਾ ਤੇ ਕਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਬੰਧੀਤੀ ਹੈ, ਸੋ ਵਹੁ ਸੁਪੈਦ ਰਹਤੀ ਹੈ। ਜਿਥੋਂ ਢਿਲੀ ਬੰਧੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਤਹਾ ਸਮਾਨ ਹੀ ਰੰਗ ਚੜਤਾ ਹੈ। ਜੋ ਖੁਲੀ ਜਾਗਾ ਹੈ, ਸੋ ਸੁਰਖ ਹੋਤੀ ਹੈ। ਤੈਸੇ ਬੰਧਨੋ ਕਰਿ ਬੰਧੇ ਹੂਏ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੈਂ, ਸੋ ਤੋ ਕੋਰੇ ਹੈਂ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਪ੍ਰਮੇਸਰ ਕਾ ਰੰਗ ਨਹੀਂ ਚੜਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਕ (ਢੀਲਿਆ) ਢਿਲਿਆਂ ਬੰਧਨਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਵਹੁ ਜਗ੍ਯਾਸੀ ਹੈਂ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਰੰਗ ਚੜਤਾ ਹੈ ਪਰੰਤੂ ਥੋੜਾ। ਇਕ ਹਰੀ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਰਿ ਜੋ ਸੁਖੀ ਹੈਂ ਜਿਨ ਕੋ ਗਾੜਾ ਰੰਗ ਚੜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਸੋ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਆਤਮ ਅਨੰਦੀ ਹੂਏ ਹੈਂ॥

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਉਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕਰਨ-ਜੋਗ ਕੰਮ ਹੈ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਨਾਮ ਹੀ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕਰਣੀ = ਕਰਨ-ਯੋਗ, ਜੋ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਆਪ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਦਾ ਹੈ ਆਪ ਹੀ (ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ ਉਸ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਤੱਖ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੀ) ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ = ਜਿਸ ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ।

ਨਾਨਕ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੇ; ਦੁਖ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਲੀ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥

Sant Singh KhalsaO Nanak, receiving the Divine Light from the Guru, suffering and corruption are burnt away, through the Name. ||2||

Manmohan Singh (Punjabi)ਨਾਨਕ ਰੱਬੀ ਨੂਰ ਗੁਰਾਂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰ, ਬੰਦਾ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੀੜ ਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਨੂੰ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਸਾੜ ਸੁੱਟਦਾ ਹੈ।
Fareedkot Teekaਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਹਤੇ ਹੈਂ: ਜਿਨ ਕੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲੇ ਹੈਂ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਰੂਪ ਚਾਨਣ ਹੂਆ ਹੈ। ਦੁਖ ਰੂਪ ਜੋ ਵਿਸੇ ਵਾਸਨਾ ਜਹਰ ਹੈ, ਸੋ ਤਿਨੋਂ ਨੇ ਨਾਮ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਜਾਲੀ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਦੂਰ ਕਰੀ ਹੈ॥੨॥
Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਕੇ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ 'ਨਾਮ' ਸਿਮਰ ਕੇ ਵਿਹੁ-ਰੂਪ ਮਾਇਆ ਤੋਂ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੋਏ ਦੁੱਖ ਸਾੜ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੇ = ਗੁਰੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ। ਬਿਖੁ = ਵਿਹੁ। ਨਾਇ = ਨਾਮ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ॥੨॥

Prof. Sahib Singhਇਹ (ਏਥੋਂ) ਤੁਰਨ ਵੇਲੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਤੁਰਦੀ, ਸੋ, ਸਾਰੇ ਧਨ ਨੂੰ ਝੂਠਾ (ਸਾਥੀ) ਜਾਣ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਦਰਬੁ = ਧਨ। ਲਖਾ = ਲਖ, ਵੇਖ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਪਰ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖ ਕੇ) ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਨ੍ਹਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਕਿ ਸਿਰ ਉਤੇ ਜਮ ਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਦੀ ਤਲਵਾਰ ਭੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਸਾਥ ਟੁੱਟਣਾ ਹੈ)।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਕਲਖਾ = ਕਲ ਖਾ, ਕਾਲ ਦਾ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਹਰਿ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਚੱਖਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਨਾਲ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਹ ਪਾਣ ਦੀ ਉਕਾਈ ਤੋਂ) ਬਚ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
