ਆਖਣਿ ਅਉਖਾ ਨਾਨਕਾ; ਆਖਿ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਆਖਿ ॥੨॥

aakhan aaukhaa naanakaa; aakh na jaapai aakh |2|

Sant Singh KhalsaIt is so difficult to chant it, O Nanak; it cannot be chanted with the mouth. ||2||
Manmohan SinghIt is difficult to utter the Lord's Name, O Nanak, It can be uttered not with the mouth.
Manmohan Singh (Punjabi)ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਮੁਸ਼ਕਲ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੂੰਹ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਇਹ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਉਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਔਖਾ ਹੈ, ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਬਿਆਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਸਮਝ ਵਿਚ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਉਂਦਾ ॥੨॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ (ਨੋਟ: ਪਹਿਲੀ ਤੇ ਪੰਜਵੀਂ ਤੁਕ ਦਾ ਹੂ-ਬ-ਹੂ ਇੱਕੋ ਹੀ ਭਾਵ ਹੈ; 'ਆਖਿ ਨ ਜਾਪੀ ਆਖਿ'='ਆਖਿ ਨ ਜਾਪੈ ਆਖਿ', 'ਜਾਪੀ'='ਜਾਪੈ; 'ਆਖਣਿ ਅਉਖਾ ਸੁਨਣਿ ਅਉਖਾ'='ਆਖਣਿ ਅਉਖਾ') ॥੨॥

Manmohan Singh (Punjabi)ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ, ਚਿੱਤ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਨਾਮ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ, ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਠੰਢ-ਚੈਨ ਪੈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ) ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀ ਰੱਖੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ ਖਿੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ (ਜੁੜਿਆਂ ਅੰਦਰ) ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਨਾਇ = (ਅਧਿਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਕ, ਇਕ-ਵਚਨ)। ਨਾਇ ਸੁਣਿਐ = (ਪੂਰਬ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਰਦੰਤਕ Locative Absolute) ਜੇ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਣੀਏ, ਜੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤ ਜੋੜੀਏ। ਰਹਸੀਐ = ਖਿੜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਮੇ = ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ। (ਨੋਟ: ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਨਾਇ' ਅਤੇ 'ਨਾਉ' ਦਾ ਫ਼ਰਕ ਚੇਤੇ ਰੱਖਣ-ਯੋਗ ਹੈ; ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਨਾਉ' ਤੋਂ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਨਾਇ' ਅਧਿਕਰਣ ਕਾਰਕ ਇਕ-ਵਚਨ ਹੈ)।

Prof. Sahib Singhਜੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਧਿਆਨ ਲੱਗ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਮਨ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਰੱਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਦੁੱਖ ਦੂਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ;

Prof. Sahib Singhਗੁਰਮੁਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨਾਮ (ਸਿਮਰਨ) ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਕੁਲ ਵਾਲੀ ਇੱਜ਼ਤ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ;

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਗਤਿ = ਉੱਚੀ ਆਤਮਕ ਅਵਸਥਾ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਰਾਗਾਂ ਦਾ ਗਾਇਨ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਕਈ ਹੁਲਾਰੇ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਟਿੱਕੀ ਹੋਈ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਵਾਦੀ ਦੀ) ਇਹ ਮੈਲ ਰਾਗਾਂ (ਦੇ ਗਾਇਨ) ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ, ਵੇਦ (ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਾਠ) ਨਾਲ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ (ਧੁਪਦੀ)।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਰਾਗੀ = ਰਾਗ (ਗਾਵਣ) ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਵੇਦੀ = ਵੇਦ (ਆਦਿਕ ਧਰਮ-ਪੁਸਤਕਾਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਨ) ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਭੇਦੀ = ਭੇਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਕੀ ਭੇਦੀ = ਕੀ ਭੇਦੀਂ, ਦੇ ਭੇਦਾਂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ। ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੀ ਭੇਦੀ = ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਅਤੇ ਸੂਰਜ ਦੇ ਵਖ-ਵਖ ਮੰਨੇ ਹੋਏ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਦਿਹਾੜਿਆਂ (ਸਮੇ ਵਖ ਵਖ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ) ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਅੰਨੀ = ਅੰਨ (ਛੱਡ ਦੇਣ) ਨਾਲ, ਵਰਤ ਰੱਖਣ ਨਾਲ। ਨਾਈ = (ਤੀਰਥਾਂ ਉਤੇ) ਨ੍ਹਾਵਣ ਨਾਲ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਇੰਦਰ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਦੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਨਾਲ ਭੀ) ਇਹ ਅੰਦਰਲੀ ਮੈਲ ਦੂਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਭਾਵੇਂ (ਇਹ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਦੇਵਤੇ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ) ਸਭ ਥਾਈਂ ਮੀਂਹ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਨਸਪਤੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੀ ਬਾਹਰਲੀ ਮੈਲ ਧੁਪ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ)।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਵਰ੍ਹਿਐ = ਵਰ੍ਹਨ ਨਾਲ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਧਰਤੀ = ਧਰਤੀ (ਦਾ ਰਟਨ ਕਰਨ) ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂ ਗੁਫ਼ਾ ਆਦਿਕ ਬਣਾਣ ਨਾਲ। ਪਾਣੀ = ਪਾਣੀ (ਵਿਚ ਖਲੋ ਕੇ ਤਪ ਕਰਨ) ਨਾਲ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਪਉਣ = ਹਵਾ, ਸੁਆਸ। ਪਉਣੈ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ = ਸੁਆਸਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋਣ ਨਾਲ, ਪ੍ਰਾਣਾਯਾਮ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ, ਸੁਆਸਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਕਣ ਦੇ ਅੱਭਿਆਸ ਨਾਲ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਜੇ ਕੋਇ = ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ। ਭਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ = ਚੁਲੀ ਭਰਨੀ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ, ਚੁਲੀ ਭਰਨ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਹੋਵੇ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਜਗਤ ਕਾ ਪਿਤਾ = ਸਾਰੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਦਾ ਮੂਲ-ਕਾਰਨ। ਸਭੁ = ਸਾਰੇ ਜਗਤ ਨੂੰ। ਖਾਇ = ਨਾਸ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ; ਪਰਲੌ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਵਿੱਦਿਆ) ਪੜ੍ਹ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਭੀ (ਜੀਵ) ਵਿਲਕਦੇ ਹੀ ਹਨ, (ਜੋ ਕੁਝ) ਸਾਹਮਣੇ (ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਅਗੈ = ਅੱਗੇ ਅੱਗੇ, ਸਾਹਮਣੇ, ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਦਿਨ ਗੁਜ਼ਰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪੜ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ = ਪੜ੍ਹ ਕੇ। ਕਰਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰ = ਪੁਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਵਿਲਕਦੇ ਹਨ।

Fareedkot Teekaਜੇਕਰ ਜਪ, ਤਪ ਅਰ ਸਾਧਨਾ ਰੂਪੀ ਜੋ ਦੁਖ ਹੈਂ ਏਹ ਦਾਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋਵੈ, ਤਉ ਦੁਖੋਂ ਕੀਆਂ ਅਗੀਂ ਜੋ ਕਾਮਾਦਿਕ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਹੈਂ, ਸੋ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਾਤੇ ਹੈਂ॥੧॥
Prof. Sahib Singhਜੀਵ ਦੁੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਾੜਿਆਂ ਨਾਲ (ਆਤਮਕ ਮੌਤ) ਮਰਦੇ ਹਨ, ਪਰ ਫਿਰ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਇਲਾਜ ਭੀ ਦੁੱਖ ਹੀ ਹੈ। (ਸਵੇਰੇ ਮੰਜੇ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਵਿਚ ਸੁੱਤਾ ਰਹੇ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਦੁੱਖ ਬਣ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ; ਪਰ ਜੇ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਉਠਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਕਸਰਤ ਆਦਿਕ ਕਸ਼ਟ ਉਠਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਦੁੱਖ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ) ॥੧॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਅਗੀ = ਅੱਗਾਂ ਨਾਲ। ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ = ਮਾਰੀਦੇ ਹਨ ॥੧॥

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਾ ਸੁਆਹ (ਦੇ ਬਰਾਬਰ) ਹੈ, ਨਿਰੀ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੀ ਸੁਆਹ ਹੈ, ਨਿਰੀ ਖੇਹ ਹੀ ਖੇਹ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਨਾਨਕ = ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਦੁਨੀਆ ਰੰਗੁ = ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦਾ ਆਨੰਦ। ਭਸੁ = ਸੁਆਹ। ਭਸੂ ਹੂ ਭਸੁ = ਨਿਰੀ ਭੱਸ ਹੀ ਭੱਸ। ਖੇਹ = ਸੁਆਹ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਇਹਨਾਂ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੱਗ ਕੇ ਜੀਵ, ਮਾਨੋ,) ਖੇਹ ਹੀ ਖੇਹ ਕਮਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਜਿਉਂ ਜਿਉਂ ਇਹ ਖੇਹ ਇਕੱਠੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਉਂ ਤਿਉਂ) ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸਰੀਰ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਖੇਹ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਰ ਲਿੱਬੜਦਾ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਮਰਨ ਤੇ) ਜਦੋਂ ਜਿੰਦ (ਸਰੀਰ) ਵਿਚੋਂ ਵੱਖਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਜਿੰਦ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ) ਸੁਆਹ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਲਿੱਬੜੀ ਹੋਈ (ਇਥੋਂ) ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ,

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਭਸੂ ਭਰਿਆ = ਸੁਆਹ ਨਾਲ ਲਿੱਬੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ। ਜਾਇ = ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਅਗੈ = ਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ, ਮਰਨ ਪਿਛੋਂ। ਲੇਖੈ ਮੰਗਿਐ = (ਪੂਰਬ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਰਦੰਤਕ, Locative Absolute) ਜਦੋਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਰਮਾਂ ਦਾ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੋਰ ਦਸੂਣੀ = ਹੋਰ ਦਸ-ਗੁਣੀ (ਸੁਆਹ)। ਪਾਇ = ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਸੁਚਿ = ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਤਾ। ਸੰਜਮੋ = ਇੰਦ੍ਰਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਚੰਗੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਵੱਸ ਵਿਚ ਲਿਆਉਣਾ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਧਿਆਨ ਜੋੜੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਮੱਥੇ ਖਿੜੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਇਹ ਨਾਮ ਉਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਸਿਮਰ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੮॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ = ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਾਹ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ॥੮॥

ਘਰਿ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ; ਸਭਾ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਆਪਣੇ) ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਾਰੀਆਂ ਮੂਰਤੀਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ ਠਾਕਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਅਸਥਾਪਨ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ,

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਘਰਿ = ਘਰ ਵਿਚ। ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ = ਠਾਕੁਰ ਦੀ ਮੂਰਤੀ। ਸਭਾ ਨਾਲਿ = ਹੋਰ ਮੂਰਤੀਆਂ ਸਮੇਤ।
