ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਨੇ ਨਾਨਕਾ; ਹੋਤ ਜਾਤ ਸਭੁ ਧੂਰ ॥੧॥

Sant Singh KhalsaWithout the Naam, the Name of the Lord, O Nanak, all are reduced to dust. ||1||

Fareedkot Teekaਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਹਤੇ ਹੈਂ: ਜੋ ਪੁਰਸ਼ ਨਾਮ ਸੇ ਰਹਤ ਹੈਂ, ਸੋ ਸਭੀ (ਜਾਤ) ਉਤਪਤਿ ਹੋ ਕੇ ਧੂਰ ਹੋਤੇ ਰਹਤੇ ਹੈਂ। ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋਂ ਨੇ ਐਸੇ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਹੈ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਸਭ ਧੂੜ ਹੋਤੇ ਜਾਤੇ ਹੈਂ॥
Prof. Sahib Singhਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਨਾਮ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣਾ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸਾਰਾ ਜਗਤ ਹੀ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਜੀਵਨ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਪੁਨੀਤ = ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ। ਜਨੂਆ = ਦਾਸਾਂ ਦੀ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਧਨਿ = ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ। ਤੇਊ = ਉਹ ਬੰਦੇ। ਜਿਹ ਮਨੂਆ = ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ। ਇਆ ਰੁਚ = ਇਸ (ਧੂਰ) ਦੀ ਤਾਂਘ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਬਾਛਹਿ = ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ। ਆਛਹਿ = ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਰਜ = ਚਰਨ-ਧੂੜ। ਰਾਚਹਿ = ਮਸਤ ਹੁੰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Sant Singh KhalsaBy all sorts of religious robes, knowledge, meditation and stubborn-mindedness, no one has ever met God.
Manmohan SinghThrough various religious garbs knowledge, concentration and mind's obstinacy, none has met the Lord.

Prof. Sahib Singhਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭੇਖ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ, ਧਰਮ-ਚਰਚਾ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ, ਮਨ ਦੇ ਹਠ ਨਾਲ ਸਮਾਧੀਆਂ ਲਾਇਆਂ ਕੋਈ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਙਿਆਨ = ਗਿਆਨ, ਧਰਮ = ਚਰਚਾ। ਹਠਿ = ਹਠ ਨਾਲ, ਬਦੋ-ਬਦੀ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਲਾ ਕੇ।

Prof. Sahib Singhਨਾਨਕ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ- ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਮਿਹਰ ਹੋਵੇ, ਉਹੀ ਭਗਤ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨਾਲ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਸਾਂਝ ਪਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੧॥

Fareedkot Teekaਅਨੇਕ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰੋਂ ਕੀਆਂ ਜੁਗਤੀਓਂ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਦ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਟਾਂਤੋਂ ਕੇ (ਭਾਤਉ) ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਕਰਨੇ ਅਰਥਾਤ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਕਰਨੇ ਸੇ ਭੀ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਤਾ॥☬ਜੇ ਕਹੈ ਗ੍ਯਾਨ ਕਾ ਕਿਆ ਲਛਣ ਹੈ? ਸੋ ਕਹਤੇ ਹੈਂ:

Fareedkot Teeka(ਆਵ) ਆਏ ਤੋ ਹੈਂ ਪਰੰਤੂ (ਨਆਏ) ਨਾ ਆਇਆਂ ਜੇਹੇ, ਵਾ ਆਵਨ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਹੀ ਆਏ ਹੈਂ। ਭਾਵ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਲਾਭੁ ਕੁਛ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੂਆ ਹੈ। ਵਾ ਆਵਨੇ ਕੀ ਵਾਰੀ ਆ ਗਈ, ਇਸ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਜਗਤ ਮੇਂ ਆਏ ਹੈਂ। ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਕੇ ਜਾਣੇ ਸੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਢੋਰ (ਪਸੁ) ਦੇਖੀਤੇ ਹੈਂ। ਵਾ (ਪਸੁ ਢੋਰ) ਮੁਰਦੇ ਪਸੂ, ਵਾ (ਪਸੁ) ਘੋੜੇ ਆਦਿਕ ਉਤਮ ਚੌਪਾਏ ਅਰ (ਢੋਰ) ਖੋਤੇ ਆਦਿਕ ਨਿਖਿਧ ਚੌਪਾਓਂ ਵਤ ਹੈਂ॥
Prof. Sahib Singhਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਕਹਣ-ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਹੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜਨਮ ਲਿਆ, ਪਰ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਰਸਤਾ ਸਮਝਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਹ ਪਸ਼ੂ ਡੰਗਰ ਹੀ ਰਹੇ (ਪਸ਼ੂਆਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਹੀ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਦੇ ਰਹੇ)।

Fareedkot Teekaਤਬ ਜੀਵੋਂ ਨੇ ਜੋ ਵਿਸ੍ਯ (ਛੋਡਿ) ਤ੍ਯਾਗ ਛੋਡਣੇ ਥੇ; ਵਾ ਜੋ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਲੋਕ ਛੋਡ ਗਏ ਹੈਂ ਅਰ ਅਬ ਆਗੇ ਕੋ (ਛਡਾਨਾ) ਛੋਡ ਜਾਣੇ ਹੈਂ। ਐਸੇ ਅਨਿੱਤ ਪਦਾਰਥੋਂ ਮੇਂ (ਉਰਝਿ ਪਰੇ) ਫਸ ਰਹੇ ਹੈਂ। ਅਰ ਜੋ ਸਰਬ ਪਦਾਰਥੋਂ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੋ ਜੀਵ ਨੇ ਮਨ ਸੇ ਬਿਸਾਰ ਛੋਡਾ ਹੈ। ਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਐਸੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕਰੇ:

Fareedkot Teekaਪਸੂ ਜੀਵ ਅਪਨੇ ਆਪੁ ਕੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਮਾਨ ਕਰ ਐਸੇ ਕਹਿਤਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਏਹ ਮੈਂ ਹੀ ਕਰਤਾ ਹੂੰ ਅਰ ਮੇਂ ਹੀ ਕਰਾਂਗਾ। ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਜੀ ਕਹਤੇ ਹੈਂ: ਜੇ ਵਿਚਾਰੀਏ ਤਾਂ ਹਰੀ ਸੇ ਬਿਨਾ ਤੁਛ ਜੀਵ ਕ੍ਯਾ ਕਰ ਸਕਤਾ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵ ਯੇਹ ਕੁਛੁ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਤਾ॥੧॥
Prof. Sahib Singhਪਰ ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮੂਰਖ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਣ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਜੀਵ ਕੁਝ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦਾ ॥੧॥

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਪਸੁ = ਪਸ਼ੂ, ਮੂਰਖ। ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰੈ = 'ਮੈਂ ਮੈਂ' ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਮੈਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ ॥੧॥

(ਬਨਿਤਾ) ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਕੇ ਬਿਲਾਸੋਂ ਮੇਂ ਰਾਚ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ, ਸੋ ਬਿਸਯੋਂ ਕਾ ਜੋ ਸੋਰ ਸਰਾਬਾ ਹੈ (ਕੁਸਮ) ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਕੇ ਰੰਗਵਤ ਹੈ, ਭਾਵ ਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਮੀ ਹੈ। ਵਾ ਜਿਨ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀਓਂ ਕੇ ਬਿਲਾਸੋਂ ਮੇਂ ਰਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਹੈਂ, ਸੋ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਰੰਗ (ਕੁਸਮ) ਫੂਲੋਂ ਸਮ ਥੋੜੇ ਦਿਨ ਕੇ ਰਹਿਣੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਔਰ (ਬਿਖ) ਜਹਿਰ ਕੇ ਤੁਲ ਮਾਰਨੇ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ, ਔਰ (ਸੋਰ) ਸੋਰੇ ਕੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਸੀਘ੍ਰ ਨਸ੍ਟ ਹੋ ਜਾਤਾ ਹੈ॥
Prof. Sahib Singh(ਅਸੀਂ ਜੀਵ) ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਆਦਿਕ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ-ਤਮਾਸ਼ਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਹੋ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ ਇਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਫੂੰ-ਫਾਂ ਕਸੁੰਭੇ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ (ਵਾਂਗ ਖਿਨ-ਭੰਗਰ ਹੀ ਹੈ)।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਬਨਿਤਾ = ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ। ਬਿਨੋਦ = ਚੋਜ = ਤਮਾਸ਼ੇ। ਕੁਸਮ = ਫੁੱਲ, ਕਸੁੰਭਾ ਫੁੱਲ। ਬਿਖ ਸੋਰ = ਬਿਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੋਰ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਫੂੰ-ਫਾਂ।
