ਨਾਨਕ. ਮਨ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ; ਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਮਰੈ. ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥

naanak. man hee te man maaniaa; naa kichh marai. na jaae |2|

Sant Singh KhalsaO Nanak, through the mind, the mind is satisfied, and then, nothing comes or goes. ||2||
Manmohan SinghNanak, through the mind the mind is propitiated and then nothing dies nor goes.
Manmohan Singh (Punjabi)ਨਾਨਕ, ਚਿੱਤ ਦੇ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਚਿੱਤ ਦੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅੰਤ ਤਾਂ ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਕੁਛ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਨਾਂ ਹੀ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਮਨ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਹੀ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ) ਪਤੀਜ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਫਿਰ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਹ ਕੁਝ ਮਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਨਾਹ ਜੰਮਦਾ ਹੈ ॥੨॥

Prof. Sahib Singh(ਕਿਤੇ) ਆਪ ਜੋਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਵਿਰਕਤ ਹੈ, ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਅਸਰ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਅਨ-ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੈ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਅਤੀਤੁ = ਵਿਰਕਤ। ਅਲਿਪਤੁ = ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦਾ) ਅਸਰ ਨਾ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ। ਨਿਰਜੋਗੁ = ਨਿਰਬੰਧ, ਮੁਕਤ, ਅਨ-ਜੁੜਿਆ।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ = ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ {ਨੋਟ: ਜਦੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਦੇ ਕੋਈ ਬਹੁਤ ਅਚਰਜ ਨਜ਼ਾਰਾ ਵੇਖਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਕੋਈ ਬੜਾ ਹੀ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਤਾਂ ਮਸਤ ਜਿਹੇ ਹੋ ਕੇ 'ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ' ਆਖਦੇ ਹਾਂ; ਮਾਨੋ, ਅਸੀਂ ਉਸ ਨਜ਼ਾਰੇ ਜਾਂ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਦੀ 'ਸਿਫ਼ਤ' ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਸੋ 'ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ' ਆਖਣਾ ਇਕ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ 'ਸਿਫ਼ਤ-ਸਾਲਾਹ' ਕਰਨਾ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਭਾਵ ਭੀ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤ ਲਈ ਅਸਾਡੇ ਪਾਸ ਢੁਕਵੇਂ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ ਨਹੀਂ ਹਨ। ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਵਾਹੁ' ਨੂੰ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ' ਦਾ ਸੰਖੇਪ ਆਖਣਾ ਗ਼ਲਤ ਹੈ, ਇਹ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ' ਦੇ ਥਾਂ 'ਵਾਹੁਗੁਰ' ਬਨਾਣ ਲਈ ਟਪਲਾ ਲਾਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਸਹਾਈ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਲਫ਼ਜ਼ 'ਗੁਰੂ' ਤੇ 'ਵਾਹਿ' ਦੇ ਵਖੋ ਵਖਰੇ ਅਰਥ ਹਨ}।

ਪਦ ਅਰਥ ਧੀਰੁ = ਟਿਕਵੇਂ ਸੁਭਾਉ ਵਾਲਾ।
